On January 30, 2025, Deputies Alejandro Valencia and Austin Whittmore responded to a critical call involving an unresponsive 6-year-old boy. Arriving within minutes, Deputy Whittmore began CPR while Deputy Valencia applied the automated external defibrillator (AED). Their tireless efforts continued until Fire/Rescue arrived, and even after being relieved, they stayed on the scene to offer support to the family.

The child had been battling terminal cancer, which had recently returned despite previous remission. Thanks to the deputies' swift and skilled response, he was able to be transported to the hospital, preventing immediate loss of life. Although he later passed away, their actions gave the family precious time and the opportunity to say their goodbyes.
